I have loved the world of work since I was young. I grew up in a family ranching business, so I've known the joy of hard work, the pleasure of accomplishing tasks that make a difference, and the nuts and bolts of business from the beginning. I was basically raised with an entrepreneurial spirit. When it came time to begin my own work life, I earned a Ph.D. in psychology because I found people and their worlds fascinating. I wanted to share those worlds in a way that would make a difference, and I wanted to do that by conducting a private practice. In graduate school, I remember doing a simulation about the roles and responsibilities of people in various roles in an organization--I played the role of the CEO--and found that the challenges were not what I thought they would be! I've since worked in the lowest boxes on the org chart through the middle and at the top, and I've now run several businesses. A very informative process!
I like how my training and experience in behavioral change and in business come together in my coaching and consulting work. I spent years listening carefully and supporting and challenging people in making changes in their lives. As I became more and more curious about the challenge of beginning and running another kind of business, I opened and then grew a successful residential and investment real estate business. Now I bring a blend of my own training and these diverse work experiences to my roles as a coach and trainer, believing that their synthesis can have a powerful impact on my collaboration with clients as they move forward from ideas into action.
The combination of my years of training and experience, my Ph.D. in psychology, my work as a Board-Certified Coach, and my personal business experience set me apart in the world of coaching. I am friends with both being and doing, and I trust the strength of both reflecting and striving. My sense of humor is quick and kind, and it can help us look at situations with grace and perspective. Realistically, change and empowerment aren't always smooth endeavors—we run into conflicts and dilemmas. What makes the difference is how we surf them.
I have lived and worked in great places—our family ranch, then Seattle, now Boulder—with my family and a standard poodle. I live a life rich in friends, horses, books, the outdoors, big sky, travel, and adventure. I am a tea fanatic. I like to sing.
